I want to bring you words

Like beads of rain on spider's webs

Or jewels, exquisite, rich in hue,

Smooth to touch, complex in mosaic depths.

I want to give you words like treasures,

To bring you a chest, a trove, a secret box

And see you plunge in your hands,

And bring them out, dripping gold

And streams of silver, sparks of blue

Trailing through your fingers,

Falling down and caught up again

As you revel in the wild abundance

Of my gift which is not a gift

But a token, a tribute,

A gesture of wonder and gratitude and joy,

Streaming color and light, and endless,

Like the love I cannot speak,

But which keeps rising out of me

And finding you,

Like hidden treasure

Burnished bright again in your hands.
